Everyone who knows me well also knows how much I like this band. PRIDE OF LIONS are the brilliant successor of SURVIVOR featuring song-writer, singer and multi-instrumentalist JIM PETERIK and his partner in crime, singer extraordinaire Toby Hitchcock, with his incredible, powerful voice. “Lion Heart” is their sixth studio album in total and another great one in the band’s now 17 years spinning career.

As usual, PETERIK’s song-writing is pure world-class, i.e. phenomenal melodies and catchy hooks rule the game here. Through the years, the group has released many contemporary classics such as “It’s Criminal”, “Immortal”, “Gone”, “Silent Music” and “Sound Of Home”. After a couple of listens, it becomes clear that “Lion Heart” is extremely close to the class of the astonishing self-titled “Pride Of Lions” album which got released way back in 2003. Highlights on this new effort include the title track, the more uptempo songs “Flagship” and “Good Thing Gone”, the mega-ballad “Unfinished Heart” and the rocky “You’re Not A Prisoner”.

Remembering the band’s outstanding performance at 2005’s United Forces Of Rock festival in Ludwigsburg and meeting the man, Mr. Peterik himself, some festival appearances after the end of the Covid pandemic really would be something cool to look out for. Spiced up with some SURVIVOR classics such as “Eye of The Tiger”, “Burning Heart” and “I Can Hold Back”, PRIDE OF LIONS live set would be killer.

If you’ll only buy one Melodic Rock album this year and if you like SURVIVOR, then “Lion Heart” should be on top of your list!
