“Zokusho“, Japanese for „next chapter“, immediately connects with the brilliant self-titled debut of 2016. Despite the delay of a few month, the new album of Paul Laine (v), Bruno Ravel (b) and Rob Marcello (g) is a true highlight of the genre. Ear-candy for fans of DANGER DANGER is the fact that Steve West plays drums here which makes it 100% the line-up of DD 1994-2004, the one with Canadian vocalist Laine on vocals. It’s pretty much the record DANGER DANGER fans are waiting for in a long time. If “Hollywood In Headlights“ or “Hold On Tonite“ for instance don’t bring you tears of joy and good memories of the times when melodic rock and AOR commercially produced hit after hit, you’re absolutely wrong here. A quite contemporary production bridges the gap between now and then with a popish tune like “Alive“ for instance. Songwriting-wise there are no fillers. Thank you DANGER DA….well, THE DEFIANTS! Finest stuff for fans of DANGER DANGER, TRIXTER or TREAT.

8,5/10
