I must admit, I always had a weak spot for German melodic glamsters (in lack of a better term) VICE. From their first 1989 debut “Made For pleasure“ to the new effort “3 Fingers Up“ undoubtedly a lot has changed, with guitarist Chris “Yps“ Limburg being the only consistant member and driving force behind the band. He, however, managed to forge a stable lineup around the talents of new singer Mario “Mitch” Michel. Actually, every track oozes hairspray, sleazy and dirt – different from what the band has done in the past, but then again, still the right thing for VICE fans. Thus, one of the standout tracks is the punky „Fuck U“with its in-your-face attitude (and, admittedly, some quite juvenile lyrics). Also, the title track “3 Fingers“ that sounds like it’s been written in the band’s heydays is coming along great and features a neat anthemic chorus that will surely be a new highlight live. I usually don’t like cover versions a lot, but the band easily delivers a strong version of JOAN JETT’s “Hate Myself For Loving You”. The only track I can live without is the album’s opener “Shitty Situation“ as the guitar riff and arrangement in general are too modern for my taste. Not 3 fingers up but definitely a huge thumbs up for VICE. Really looking forward to the next one, provided that the band can keep a stiff upper lip.
