The return of former frontman David Readman (PINK CREAM 69, ex ALMANAC) who takes over the mic from Herbie Langhans and the constant high level of songwriting of the classic rockers VOODOO CIRCLE make “Locked & Loaded“ shine. It’s already a really hot contender for the best-of lists of the new year. Whether you take faster songs like “Wasting Time“ or a ballad like “Eyes Full Of Tears“, VOODOO CIRCLE around maintain and guitar-slinger Alex Beyrodt absolutely delivers. Beyrodt (g) and Readmann plus Mat Sinner (b, PRIMAL FEAR, SINNER) and Markus Kullmann (dr, GLENN HUGHES) are a brilliant match for sure. Mix and mastering is handled by Danish legend Jacob Hansen (VOLBEAT). This record could have been out 1978 or 1985 or 2005 or today, it’s timeless music with sheer quality musicianship, a pristine production and purest hard rock. Just check out the blistering and powerful opener “Flesh & Bone“ or the majestic “Magic Woman Chile“ as well as the vocal-driven and kind of easy-going “Devil With An Angel Smile“ or the very much WHITESNAKE-like “Straight For The Heart“. You certainly won’t get disappointed. And you certainly don’t get anything new here, but isn’t that exactly what fans want with bands like VOODOO CIRCLE? They want something to rely on. Well, I do!
