The creative output of Swedish Michael Erlandsson is unbelievably rich. No matter whether with LAST AUTUMN’S DREAM currently being on a hiatus, with solo records or more recently with AUTUMN’S CHILD, he absolutely delivers. The second album again offers melodic rock with bits and pieces of pop, lots of pathos and emotional ballads full of drama. “A Tear From The Sky“ and “Only Love Can Save The World“ are big time songs as well as the uptempo track “Aquarius Sky“ or the amazing ballad “Don’t Ever Leave Me“, goosebumps guaranteed. Some of the the tunes on “Angel’s Gate“ are a little bit reminiscent of pop-rock-pomp like SUPERTRAMP, ELO or many other iconic seventies acts. Also the production is reminiscent of this era rather than contemporary AOR or melodic rock. We don’t have to mention the unique and slightly fragile voice of Mikael Erlandsson here, I guess. The mighty Robban Bäck (ex SABATON, ex ECLIPSE, W.E.T.) on drums, like on the debut, is a real surprise as he usually plays harder stuff but he actually does a great job. “Angel’s Gate“ is a really good record although not quite as good in terms of songwriting as most releases of the predecessor band LAST AUTUMN’S DREAM.
